2015 AALIMS Conference
The 2015 Association for Analytic Learning about Islam and Muslim Societies (AALIMS) Conference and Junior Scholars' Workshop is being hosted and co-organised by CSIA on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 May 2015 at the Oxford Department of International Development, Queen Elizabeth House, 3 Mansfield Road, Oxford OX1 3TB.
AALIMS is an important platform for promoting analytic research on Muslim societies, and focuses on the roles of culture and religion in past and present social, economic and political trends. Directed by Timur Kuran (Duke University), AALIMS serves as a forum for discussion and critical evaluation of research that uses advanced descriptive, theoretical and empirical social science methods. For further details, see: http://aalims.org/
AALIMS holds a two-day annual conference where half a day is devoted to running a junior scholars' workshop. This workshop provides a forum for graduate students and post-docs working on Islam or the Muslim world. It features selected junior scholars who present their work in progress to an audience consisting of both faculty and graduate students. The event also provides opportunities for junior scholars in the field to meet one another, as well as established scholars.
There is no fee for registering for either the Junior Scholars' Workshop (Friday Morning); or for the Conference on the Political Economy of Islam and Muslim Societies (Friday Afternoon and All Day Saturday). However, if you are planning to attend, please send Nicola Shepard (firstname.lastname@example.org) a message with the following information:
- Your name, institution, position and contact details;
- Whether you plan to attend both the workshop and conference; and
- Whether you are happy for your e-mail address to be included in a list of participants that will be available on the day.
